Trust – so important

Have you heard the saying, “If people like you, they will listen to you. But if they trust you,
they’ll do business with you,”?

We whole-heartedly believe in this saying. We know that the number one reason our clients
choose us is because they TRUST us.

Obviously value for money comes into the equation, which we discussed in last month’s column. But when push comes to shove, if comparing two fairly similar quotes, with similar price points, most people pick the person they most trust.

Building up that trust is a process which takes time. Luckily, the process of designing and building a new home is not fast, so you have time to weigh up the relationships you are building with your prospective building company.

When adding to or renovating an existing home it is also important to ensure you trust the contractors you intend to use as they will be entering the place which you already inhabit.

Here are some tips for gauging trustworthiness…

-Do you like them? Meet with the key people who will manage your build. It’s really important to know the specific people who you will deal with for the duration of your project. You want to make sure you get along well with them. If there are personality clashes
or any uneasy feelings, listen to your gut instinct. It’s usually right.
-Do they show true interest in you? By this we mean, do you feel valued as a client or are you just a dollar sign? They should acknowledge your input, not railroad you. You should feel confident they will accommodate your needs, wants and ideas – this is YOUR home we are talking about! You don’t have to become golf buddies, (not that Nick would complain!) but you should gel.
-Do they show integrity? “I said what I meant and I meant what I said, an elephant is faithful 100 percent” – Dr Suess Apply some ‘Horton Logic’ to your potential builder – how does he stack up? Building a relationship comes down to consistency and communication.

The ultimate aim should be to have a great build experience whoever you choose. If you choose a team which treats you as a ‘building partner’ rather than just a transaction, we know this will put you well on the way to achieving a great outcome.
